This time last year we lost a great woman. Her name is Manō Nātia Faʻaseʻe Tautua and she was a strong Samoan leader, mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, and carer for many. She was warm, and her presence powerful—reverence and respect were given to her without pressure. She was a pillar of my connection to Samoa and the knowledge of the past.

She was the only grandparent I ever knew, and her passing really catalysed a deep and ongoing investigation into all of my grandparents; their lives, their human qualities, and their impacts on the worlds that existed around them.

This piece of music started as drone experiments, and in a very natural way, ended up centring around recordings of the conversation we had with mum on the day that grandma passed.
